We wanted you to be the first to know that the Board of our foundation has made the decision this year to cancel the Christina Clarke Genco Memorial Mother’s Day Ride and Spring Benefit.
As you know, our Safe Biking initiative has included grant opportunities for bicycling coalitions, as well as our signature Bike Light Hand-out Programs, providing riders (especially young riders) with lights and batteries free of charge. We’re very excited to leverage our funds to create more of these hand-out programs this year.
In lieu of our regular Newton, MA event, we’ll be hosting a ‘virtual’ ride on Sunday, May 13, in which we’ll encourage riders like you and others all over the country to ride their bicycle wherever they’d like, and send in photos and video to the foundation. More information will be posted in the coming weeks to the site, so stay tuned.
We will be reaching out in an email with details on your registration refund, if you were registered already.
As an organization focused on Safe Biking, we remain grateful for your support in helping to make our streets safer for everyone on the road.
The Christina Clarke Genco Foundation
The Board of the CCG Foundation has been carefully monitoring the weather reports over the last few days and last night we made the decision to cancel the Mother’s Day Ride due to inclement weather. As an organization focused on Safe Biking, our first priority is always rider safety and Sunday’s predicted heavy winds and rain make for potentially dangerous riding conditions.
While we’re obviously disappointed to cancel this year’s ride, please join us at our Spring Benefit this Friday May 12, from 6:30pm – 8:30pm at M Fine Arts Galerie (61 Thayer Street Boston, MA 02118 ) www.mfinearts.com.
While this event doesn’t involve your bike it will showcase pieces of Christina’s Art, a silent auction, food, wine & beer, and lots of fun people!
Funds raised from the Spring Benefit support our Safe Biking Fund including our signature bike light handout program. Tickets for the Spring Benefit can be purchased on the foundation website. This event is always well attended and a great time. We hope you will join us!
See you soon!

Our 6th annual memorial bike ride is planned for Mother’s Day, May 14 2017.

With a little bit (OK, for some riders, a LOT) of rain, the 5th Annual Christina Clarke Genco Mother’s Day Memorial Ride was a great success, with over 100 riders enjoying four routes on great spring day.
Following our Spring Benefit on Friday night at UFORGE Gallery, we enjoyed the tunes of the Boston University band, saw old faces and met new ones, taught adorable future cyclists about how to be safe on their bicycles, changed flat tires, and had a wonderful time soaking up the sun after a damp and brisk ride.
Many thanks to all of our sponsors, volunteers, local police, and especially you, the donors and riders, who make all of this possible year after year.
Are you a geo-tech bike riding geek? Do you match your perfected cadence with sleek gadgets? This year we have provided route information in additional electronic form. KMZ (Google-Earth), GPX (GPS) and STRAVA maps. Give them a whirl.
Please use and enjoy. But remember your cue sheets are your primary means of information.
We need volunteers for this year’s Ride.
Come help out this year. Meet some of the great people working behind the scenes to make our ride so great!

We were extremely saddened to learn about the death of Patrick Wanninkhof, a Bike & Build
cyclist who was tragically killed in Oklahoma after being struck from behind by a vehicle while en route from Maine to Santa Barbara — the same cycling route that Christina completed in 2009.
Our thoughts, prayers, and support are with Patrick’s family, with Patrick’s riding partner Bridget Anderson who suffered several broken bones from the accident, and with all of the other Bike & Builders still on the road.
Thank you to everyone who came out to support the Christina Clarke Genco Foundation this year at our annual Spring Benefit and Mother’s Day Memorial Ride! Both events were a ton of fun, bringing together both old and new friends, and renewing Christina’s spirit in all of our lives.
Check out photos from the events on our facebook page:
A huge THANK YOU to all of our sponsors for their continued support!
Enjoy the summer and hope to see you all again next year!
